You’ve probably heard of the Dream Team. Headlined by Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird, Team USA was the greatest collection of basketball players ever assembled (at least until Space Jam, four years later).
This was the first time the United States brought a team of professionals to play Olympic ball, and the Dream Team didn’t disappoint. They went a perfect 8–0 with an average winning margin of 117 to 74, and the basketball was mostly a footnote to the team’s stardom in Barcelona. This team was so loaded everyone knew they’d wipe the floor — and they did.
The Dream Team faced Croatia in the gold-medal game, a team they’d beaten soundly a couple weeks earlier, led by Drazen Petrovic and Toni Kukoc.
