Dodgers Rewrite History Books

The last time a team won 43 of 50 games, the Federal government didn’t collect income tax from the people. The year was 1912, the New York Giants were a dominant force in the National League led by catcher Chief Meyers and second baseball Larry Doyle. During that year the Giants also won 43 of 50 but ultimately fell shorts to the Boston Red Sox in game 7 of the World Series.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are 1st in the NL West leading the Colorado Rockies by 14.5 games. They broke history Saturday night all while all-star pitcher Clayton Kershaw out with an injury. The Dodgers are the clear NL pennant favorite. It seems as though the Nationals are their only real competition in a 7 game series.

Let’s talk more about this 50 game stretch:

The Dodgers are 46 games above .500 for the first time since 1962. They are being led by the sure-to-be rookie of the year Cody Bellinger who has belted an astounding 31 home runs in his rookie season. Probably even more astounding, 3rd baseman Justin Turner is batting a career high and league leading .347. They may not be the best offensive team in the MLB statistically, but they have the best pitching staff, by a long shot.

Postseason Schedule Released

The 2017 postseason will begin on October 3rd for the AL Wild Card game. The NL Wild Card game will be held the following day, October 4th. The 113th World Series starts on October 24th on Fox.

Here is a closer look at the schedule as a whole:

Players of the Week

Wilson Contreras of the Chicago Cubs hit .455 last week to go along with his 5 home runs to win NL Player of the Week. Tim Beckham of the Baltimore Orioles hit .583 and 3 home runs to win AL Player of the Week honors.

In Other News…

Bryce Harper hits his 150th career home run.

Barry Bonds said he regrets not trying for 800 home runs.

Mike Trout hits a home run on his birthday, yet again.

Hock’s Hot Takes

· Wilson Contreras continues to lead the Cubs atop the NL Central.

· Barry Bonds wouldn’t even have hit 800 if he tried.

· Dodgers will have the best season of all time with 117+ wins.
