The Ezekiel Elliot saga continued when the NFL punished him with a 6-game suspension without pay. So, did Zeke get off light? The Twitter reactions to the suspension was as expected.

My initial reaction to the Ezekiel Elliott suspension is … last year, Roger Goodell suspended Josh Brown for one game.

The NFL had a video of Ray Rice knocking out his GF in the elevator and he got four less games than what Ezekiel Elliott is going to get.

Pile on the NFL all you want here — and where is the consistency? — but clearly the investigators found something.

Here’s my thoughts the suspension was right and should’ve and could’ve been longer. I feel like the NFL took in account a couple of things. First and foremost, the overall investigation the league examined all the evidence that was made available. This included photographic and digital evidence, thousands of text messages and other records of electronic communications. Also, remember Zeke had multiple situations this year while being under investigation for domestic violence. The NFL recently ended an investigation of a bar fight in July that involved Ezekiel Elliott. Zeke was seen earlier in the year pulling a woman’s shirt down. As a player that’s under investigation these negative headlines aren’t a good look.

The NFL is in a weird place with domestic violence because they want to snatch more female viewers. According to Reuters.com women comprise 45 percent of the NFL fan base. More women are wanted even with nearly half of the audience. When a suspension for domestic violence is needed, the NFL wants to make sure they get it right or that 45 percent women viewership can and will disappear. At the end of the day this is about business. Athletes hitting a woman or allegedly hitting a woman in any shape or form is bad for business. For an athlete or anyone to put their hands on a woman is bad and should be treated like its extreme no matter how special the player is. Ezekiel Elliott is blessed to get the star treatment from the NFL. There was a standard that needed to be set for domestic violence offenders. I don’t know if a six-game suspension is the standard but it is definitely a start to cleaning up this gruesome act.
