It is not Fair to Call Old NBA Players “Plumbers”

It’s absolutely not fair to call the players of the 50s and 60s plumbers. You shouldn’t be a fan of taking things away from people in which they cannot control.

Bob Cousy never asked to be born in the 1920s.

He never asked to play in the 50s.

He never asked for there to be 8 teams in the NBA or 3 rounds in the playoffs.

He never asked his opponents to be less athletic. He dominated a time in which he was forced to play in.

We can play the what if game all day, however we have to judge the players based on the scenario given to them.

Players of today are way more skilled, that is irrefutable. However if Bob Cousy grew up in the 90s, he would have been taught the modern game.

He would have likely been way more athletic than he was, he would have likely had way better handles, and would have likely had a way more aesthetically pleasing playstyle.

In today’s day and age we have high schoolers lifting weights, we now have college programs with top level nutritionists and dietitians. This is just at the collegiate level.

One can only imagine the amount of resources that an NBA team must have at their disposal. The likes of which a Bob Cousy wishes he had a…
