March Madness is finally here, and you need to pick the perfect bracket. And this time of the year, you’re looking for pretty much any advantage you can find. Gone are the days when just knowing the magic word KenPom could give you a leg up in your pool. Everybody uses advanced metrics and Four Factors now, and a thousand sites are breaking down rosters, Xs and Os.

So where can you find an edge now? Perhaps through the lens of the past.

This article will break down each team and each region by looking at the past. History doesn’t always repeat itself — after all, it’s called March Madness for a reason — but it does give us many good, predictable tools. Here are some of the historical factors worth considering…
