The NFL reinstated wide receiver Josh Gordon on a “conditional basis” Monday. He has violated the league’s drug policy repeatedly and lost the entire 2015 season because of it

He will be allowed to join the Cleveland Browns at training camp, but he’s suspended him for the first four games of the 2016 season. He is eligible to return October 3 and may participate in training camp and team meetings during his suspension.

He led the league in receiving yards in 2013.

History of drug problems

Gordon’s had lots of problems in the past. He was suspended for two games in 2013, 10 games in 2014, and the whole 2015 season for drug offenses. He tried to get reinstated earlier this year… but… he failed a drug test (dilution). He also showed up as positive for marijuana, but it didn’t exceed the NFL’s limits for positive. But a diluted test counts the same as a positive result.

“This is a great change, the fact that he can stay with the team during the suspension. Commissioner Goodell believes the ability for Josh to work with the team during his suspension will help him. He went outside the norm in this case.” — His agent, Drew Rosenhaus to ESPN
