NHL Commissioner upholds 20 game suspension on Dennis Wideman after hitting ref

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman upheld a 20-game suspension levied against Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman after he leveled ref Don Henderson in a Jan. 27th game against the Predators. Wideman was heading the the bench after a hit he took when he cross-checked the ref.

Wideman said it was unintentional and he was not penalized during the game.

Next step is for Wideman to accept the suspension of, via the Players Association, appeal to a neutral abritrator.
