The NFL regular season is still a month away, but the real football action is already heating up. While the casual fan might be focused on beach days and backyard barbecues, the NFL world is abuzz with anticipation for the preseason. And let’s be honest, some of these games are going to be must-watch TV.

I’m talking, of course, about the quarterback battles. These are the storylines that drive the offseason narrative, and the preseason is where those narratives begin to take shape. From established veterans looking to prove they’ve still got it to rookie phenoms eager to make their mark, the preseason is a proving ground.

Let’s break down the top five games to circle on your week 1 preseason calendar:

1. Texans at Steelers (Friday, Aug. 9)

C.J. Stroud vs. a revamped Steelers secondary? Yes, please. The rookie phenom gets his first taste of NFL action against a defense that’s been significantly upgraded. And let’s not forget about Justin Fields making his first career start in black and gold. This game has all the makings of a shootout.

2. Bears at Bills (Saturday, Aug. 10)

All eyes will be on Caleb Williams, the generational talent who could be making his NFL debut. But let’s not overlook Josh Allen, who’ll be playing for the first time without Stefon Diggs. This matchup has the potential to be explosive.

3. Commanders at Jets (Saturday, Aug. 10)

While Aaron Rodgers is sitting this one out, the intrigue surrounding Jayden Daniels is undeniable. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner gets his first taste of NFL life against a talented Jets defense. Can he handle the pressure?

4. Broncos at Colts (Sunday, Aug. 11)

The NFL’s only three-way quarterback battle takes center stage. Bo Nix, Jarrett Stidham, and Zach Wilson are all vying for the starting job, and every snap will be dissected. Plus, there’s the added intrigue of Anthony Richardson’s return from injury.

5. Raiders at Vikings (Saturday, Aug. 10)

The Aidan O’Connell-Gardner Minshew battle for the Raiders’ starting job is heating up, and Davante Adams’ recent comments have only added fuel to the fire. Meanwhile, the Vikings are trying to figure out if J.J. McCarthy is ready to be the future.

These five games offer a glimpse into the future of the NFL. We’ll see if these young quarterbacks can live up to the hype, and we’ll get a better sense of which teams are ready to contend. So, grab your favorite beverage, fire up the TV, and enjoy the show. The NFL preseason is officially underway.

Who are you most excited to watch this preseason? Let me know in the comments!
