The most iconic baseball players are those who are talked about just as much after they’re done playing as they were when they graced a diamond. One of those legends was outfielder Joe DiMaggio, who spent the entirety of his Hall-of-Fame career with the New York Yankees. “The Yankee Clipper” is as synonymous with the team as bread is with butter but he may have spent his best years toiling in relative obscurity if New York had accepted a mammoth offer made to them by the St. Louis Browns when he was still in the early days of his career.

DiMaggio played 13 seasons with the Yankees (1936–1942; 1946–1951) but missed three full years during the height of World War II because of his military service. Known as a player with virtually no flaws, he was an All Star in every season; won three MVP awards; received MVP votes in all but one season; and was a leader on 10 World Series teams, including nine that took home the championship.
