Whose Decision Was It To Make Tua Tagovailoa The Starting Quarterback In Miami?

The answer is surprisingly obvious — even though it wasn’t the coaches.

Let me be as abundantly — if not bluntly — clear to you as possible: if you really believe that the coaching staff of the Miami Dolphins believed, even in plurality, that making Tua Tagovailoa the team’s starting quarterback this week was in the best interest of having the team win games this year, this month, or even this week, then I have some magic beans to sell you.

Spare me any argument about the Dolphins somehow being better with Tagovailoa under center than with Ryan Fitzpatrick, when the latter was ranked 7th in the NFL in Quarterback Rating (QBR) through six weeks — ahead of Lamar Jackson, Drew Brees, Deshaun Watson, Matt Ryan, and Kyler Murray in those rankings.

Spare me the idea that the Dolphins are “punting” on the 2020 NFL season. Remember when we all said they were an obvious pick to go 0–16 last year? How’d that work out? Is there anything Flores said or did that would lead you to believe he’s not genuinely focused on winning every single game he coaches? Absolutely not. That’s why the Dolphins are 3–3 through six games this year, and only one game out from the quietly-slumping Buffalo Bills for the AFC East division lead.
