Why the New England Patriots Need to Initiate an NFL Divorce with Tom Brady This Offseason

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has a legitimate claim to the title of the greatest of all time. After all, he’s thrown for 73,951 yards and 536 touchdowns, all while leading the team to an unprecedented nine Super Bowls — winning six of them. That all being said, as he’s about to complete his 20th season in Foxborough, the time has come for he and the Pats to go their separate ways.

On paper, the 2019 season looks pretty good for New England. They are 10–3 and headed for the playoffs yet again with one of the best defenses in football. On offense, it’s been a different story. Brady, who is 42, has continued playing at a high level, but is on pace for his worst statistical showing in years in large part because of a meager cupboard of weapons to throw and hand the ball off to. He is also scheduled to be a free agent this offseason, and the time is here for he and the team to go in different directions.

You simply can’t replace a legend like Brady — even at his advanced age. He has been a key component in the New England dynasty that has brought unprecedented success to a franchise with a modest past. He has…
