Will Muschamp Thinks You Shouldn’t Blame Coaches If A Player Dies

Everyone knows two things about the fraternity of college football head coaches:

  1. It’s a tight knit one (outside of the usual regional/conference/former-coworkers-who-hate-each-other beefs)
  2. They’re all going to stick up for each other, because they know how hard it is to get — and keep — said job.

All of that being said, Will Muschamp’s “passionate” defense of University of Maryland Head Coach DJ Durkin, in light of the ESPN exposé highlighting the football program’s toxic culture that might have contributed to the death of 19-year old offensive lineman Jordan McNair, is hypocritical, imbecilic, and reprehensible.

The question posed to Muschamp was about “where is the line” between building a “tough” football team, and literally inflicing mental, physical, and emotional abuse on your team. It’s something of an ironic question from the get-go, considering Muschamp has consistenly toed the exact line he’s been asked about.

As as you’d expect from someone who shows the same level of temperance on game day as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, you got a response that demonstrates having the same level of empathy for a student athlete he’s trying to turn into a “winner” as your local grocery store butcher would have for a pork loin he’s trying to…
