The Dangers of Being Honest in a World of Flagrant Falsehood
Should we prefer telling lies then?
My simple, direct answer to the foregoing question is NO. Let us remain honest, sincere and straightforward irrespective of the dangers inherent in being and or doing so.
There are several dangers in being honest. The reasons predictably are not farfetched.
Someone (I guess in the nineties) once said on BBC [I apologize, I might not have quoted absolutely verbatim], thus:
“Truth is a scarce commodity... There is risk for those who are involved in its practice.”
Nothing could be truer. The truth is aging. Not only aging, it is going extinct. Not only that, it is becoming an increasingly endangered species.
People in different places look for a way to avoid it. Some would describe telling lies as being: diplomatic; political correct; professional; security intelligent, et al.
It has been said — in certain quarters although I do not know how true — that diplomats are those who had been trained to tell lies in six languages.
How that is done, of course: I cannot tell precisely.
