The Poland-Georgia Technology Summit attracted dozens of visitors to the TechPark in Tbilisi this week. The two-day summit focused on how the two countries can cooperate in technological innovation, while connecting Georgian startups to Polish investors.

“Poland and Georgia share a common history and are linked like family to each other,” Spotcoin Co-Founder Andrew Thornhill said. “ Poland is attracted to Georgia’s strong desire for growth, the availability of low cost energy and low cost labor, while Georgia is attracted to Poland’s great experience of transforming a post-Soviet country into a financial powerhouse and a member of the European Union.”

The event included a hotly anticipated panel about how blockchain can be used in the public and private sectors, featuring Thornhill as a presenter.

The Tbilisi-based digital currency firm has been a strong advocate in bringing together public sector, private business, and academia to help spur blockchain innovation and implementation. Spotcoin is a sponsor of the upcoming NEO Black Sea Community’s Blockchain Hackathon, the first-ever in Georgia.

Spotcoin places a great deal of importance on making connections within Georgia’s current and previous administration, with the goal of implementing blockchain use to streamline access to government services. Georgia’s openness to blockchain, and it’s progressive push towards transparency, makes it a great example for other nations looking to use public digital letters within official agencies.

One of the speakers on this panel was Krzysztof Wojdylo, who heads the New Technologies practice at Wardynski & Partners. He discussed the applications of blockchain in the business world, as well as how this technology is influencing the legal profession.

Other panels, presented by businesspeople from Poland and Georgia, discussed topics like supporting and developing innovation, and cooperation between startups and large companies.

The crowd at the two-day event included representatives of the Polish government, Polish investors, as well as entrepreneurs based in the country. The delegation was greeted with a presentation from Georgia’s Innovation & Technology Agency (GITA) about it’s daily work to advance knowledge, high-tech and fintech in the country, and connect entrepreneurs with venture capital funding.

The summit was organized by GITA, Foundation for Technology Entrepreneurship, and Foundation Coalition for Polish Innovations, among others. The Polish Embassy in Tbilisi was an honorary patron of the event.
