The Lake District is rated as one of the fifty places in the world by the National Geographic magazine, it is known as the most beautiful area in England. The largest lake, the highest mountain and the deepest valley in England are all here. In the Lake District, most of the lakes have been developed. Visitors can use public transportation, walking or self driving, besides some distant lakes are hardly visited, so bus transit times are not as frequent.

Windermere Town center
  1. The first stop in the Lake District must be Windermere. This is the center of the Lake District. Many people who come to the Lake District are transfer here or live here and play in other towns. [UNIQUE FEATURE: Windermere can hike from town to bowness-on-windermere]

2. Bowness-on-Windermere is the nearest town to Windermere. It only takes about 20-minute to walk, and there are many local stone houses along the way. There is a port where you can go by boat to another lake, or you can feed the beautiful swan on the shore. I tried the Thai restaurant and it tastes good. You can find more restaurants on the Trip advisor. [UNIQUE FEATURE: Here is the hometown of Peter Rabbit, and Beatrix Potter created the “Peter Rabbit Story”. In to the museum needs tickets.]

3. Once again from Windermere, take the double-decker sightseeing bus 599 or cyclist about half an hour to Grasmere (Grasmere town ends), approximately 6–7 kilometers on foot around the lake. [UNIQUE FEATURE: Dove Cottage, the former residence of romantic poet William Wordsworth. And there is a famous gingerbread shop next to it.]

4. Then walk towards Ambleside. There will be a small lake called Rydal on the way. The scenery is very beautiful. [UNIQUE FEATURE: Bridge House]

5. Last time from Windermere, take bus 555 or ride to Keswick. It is the largest town in the lake district, the world’s first pencil factory was born in this town. [UNIQUE FEATURE: Pencil Museum]
