New Year Event in Liverpool China Town — Fun or not?

A special event will be held in British Liverpool’s China Town from February 16th to 18th to celebrate the Spring Festival with local Chinese people.

Liverpool’s China Town is the oldest and the most famous one in the area of Europe. The historic and meaning of it cannot be underestimated, holding an important event in there is no doubt to be expectant.

However, China Town was becoming more and more desolate, the scene of it is not like how fabulous the article have described it before anymore. In recent years, with the economic recession in Liverpool, many Chinese have moved to some bigger southern cities to find new business opportunities. So that the China Town has also been in recession, lots of shops have even closed down.

“Chinese students rarely choose to shop in China Town,” said Meng Ting, a Chinese student who is studying in University of Liverpool. “Because there are much more choices on the road ahead. Mostly, people come to China Town are for visiting and taking pictures.”

“It’s not easy to make money,” said Liu Jinhua, own of one of the stores in China Town. “Most of owners couldn’t stand of the boring so they move away. The busiest and most active period of a year in here is the New Year Time.”

This is the 10th year of celebrating New Year in Liverpool’s China Town. The meaning of the event is to solve the problem of Chinese people feeling homesick, now is also need to deal with Chinese businessmen’s income concern.

“I hope this event can become an unchangeable tradition to make China Town feels like it still alive.” said Liu.
