Interview avec Lynn Gunn de Pvris (English below)

[FR] Chanteuse du trio américain Pvris qui fait parler de lui depuis plusieurs mois, Lynn Gunn nous a accordé un peu de son temps pour répondre aux questions posés par notre équipe ainsi que par leur street team française. Alors si vous voulez en savoir plus sur leur premier album White Noise, sur une éventuelle venue en France ou encore les bonnes résolutions de Lynn, c’est par ici que tout ce passe :

Spread Their Sound : Votre premier album White Noise est sorti le 4 novembre. Quelles ont été les principales réactions du public ?
Lynn : Les réactions ont été stupéfiantes. Honnêtement, nous ne savions pas à quoi nous attendre, parce que le public à qui notre album a été proposé n’est pas forcément fan de ce genre de musique à la base, mais les retours ont été vraiment positifs et ont surpassés nos attentes. On en est vraiment reconnaissants.

Pouvez-vous nous dire comment vous avez écrit l’album ? Est-ce que ce premier effort était difficile à écrire, et qu’est ce que Blake Harnage, en tant que producteur à apporter à cet album ?
C’est venu tout naturellement, ce n’était pas du tout compliqué. Travailler avec Blake fut vraiment une bonne chose. Il nous a beaucoup apprit. Une des choses les plus importantes qu’il nous a apprit c’est qu’il ne faut pas se préoccuper de ce que les autres pourraient penser de cet album, de seulement nous concentrer pour écrire les meilleurs chansons possibles, pour qu’ON en soit fiers. Ceci à changé le processus d’écriture de l’album, et l’a rendu plus simple. On a réalisé qu’on pouvait faire tout ce que notre esprit voulait qu’on fasse.

Si vous deviez décrire cet album en trois mots, quels seraient-ils ?
Sombre, dynamique et étincelant.

Dernièrement, votre album est sorti sous forme de vinyle. En tant qu’artiste, est-ce que c’est quelque chose d’important, est-ce que vous écoutez des vinyles quand vous êtes chez vous ? Si oui, quoi ?
Honnêtement, aucun de nous n’a de tourne-disque, donc nous n’avons pas de vinyle. Cependant, on sait à quel point cela est important pour beaucoup de monde, et a quel point certains en sont passionnés. Je pense que quelque soit l’album, il est important de pouvoir le retrouver sous forme de vinyle, ou quel qu’autre format qu’il soit.

Nous avons remarqué que vous travaillez beaucoup sur le visuel, que ce soit sur les clips, les photos ou les images en général. Ils sont à la fois travaillés et simples. Est-ce que vous portez autant d’importance à cela qu’à votre musique ? Et pourquoi ce choix de noir et blanc si particulier ?
Pour moi, l’esthétique est vraiment importante, et je pense que c’est quelque chose qui est souvent négligé par beaucoup de groupes, et dans la musique en général. J’ai grandi en prenant des cours d’art plastique à l’école, et j’étais supposé aller à l’université pour y étudier le graphisme et l’art visuel, donc je pense presque plus aux visuels qu’à la musique. C’est vraiment quelque chose que je voulais apporter au groupe. Nous voulions être certain d’apporter tout autant de singularité que de caractère, que ce soit au niveau visuel ou musical. Pour moi, ils vont de paire.

En ce qui concerne le noir et blanc et les couleurs désaturées qu’on a souvent, il y a plusieurs raisons. Déjà, notre album s’intitule White Noise, donc ça paraît évident. De plus, beaucoup de nos chansons sont assez sombres, et ont un lien avec la mort, les fantômes et d’autres sujets paranormaux. Penser à ces chose là, me fait aussi penser aux vieux films d’horreur et d’épouvante, qui sont soit en noir et blanc, soit très désaturés. Mais une des principales raisons, c’est que nous voulions vraiment que les gens se fassent leur propre image, tirent leur propre conclusion, aient leur propre interprétation de ce qu’on dit ou fait, que ce soit à propos de nos images ou de notre musique. Je sais que parfois, lorsqu’on voit une couleur particulière sur une image, que ce soit sur une pochette de single ou d’album, cela peut changer la manière dont on la voit, tout comme la musique qui va avec. Pour nous, le manque de couleur laisse place a toute interprétation, et donne plus de chance aux gens de percevoir ce qu’ils veulent voir.

Vous venez d’annoncer une tournée en Grande-Bretagne ainsi que quelques dates en tête d’affiche. Êtes-vous impatients ou nerveux à l’idée de jouer à l’étranger, et plus particulièrement pour ces dates en tête d’affiche ?
Nous avons tellement hâte ! Ce sera notre première tournée à l’étranger. On voulais venir depuis longtemps. Et maintenant, c’est enfin le cas ! Les places pour les deux concerts en headline se sont toutes vendues dès la première journée, donc nous avons vraiment hâte pour ces deux concerts en particulier.

Des chances pour qu’on vous voit sur une tournée Européenne, qui inclurait Paris ? Vos fans français veulent voir Pvris à Paris.
Un jour ! On aimerait aller dans tous les endroits possible haha. SURTOUT Paris !

Qu’est-ce que vous préférez dans une tournée ? Y-a-t-il quelque chose que vous emmenez tout le temps avec vous ?
Je pense que ce que je préfère c’ est de pouvoir m’échapper du monde réel, monter sur scène tous les soirs et jouer de la musique avec mes meilleurs amis. J’emmène tout le temps mon ordinateur portable et un cahier à dessins/carnet de notes !

2015 arrive à grand pas. Quelles sont vos bonnes résolutions pour l’année à venir ?
Hmmmmm… Lire plus, documenter plus ma vie, et laisser un peu de coté la technologie et internet haha.

A quoi peut-on s’attendre de la part de Pvris en 2015 ?
Tout et n’importe quoi ! Nous avons pas mal de projets, mais on préfère les dévoiler quand ils seront devenus concrets ;)

[EN] Lead singer in a band that you might have already heard of, Lynn Gunn from Pvris, took a little bit of her time to answer some questions made by Spread Their Sound, which has teamed up with Pvris’s French street team. So if you are eager to know more about Pvris’s first album White Noise, a possible European tour, and Lynn’s New Year’s resolutions, here’s your chance !

Spread Their Sound: Your first album White Noise has been released on November 4th. What do you feel about the feedbacks so far?
Lynn: The feedback has been amazing. We honestly weren’t sure what to expect just because the audience the record was being pushed to isn’t necessarily used to this type of music, but the response has been so positive and went beyond any of our expectations. We’re super grateful for that.

Can you describe the writing process? Was it hard to write this first full length, and what has Blake Harnage, as a producer, brought to it?
It came so naturally and wasn’t really hard at all. Working with Blake was the greatest things and he taught us so much. One of the biggest things he taught us was not to worry about what others would think of the record, to just focus on writing the best possible songs we could write and to write songs that WE would be proud of. That whole mindset shifted the writing process for us and made it effortless, we realized we could literally make anything our brains wanted to.

If you had to describe this album in 3 words, what would they be?
Dark, dynamic and sparkly.

You have recently released your album on a vinyl format. Does it have an important meaning for you as artists and do you enjoy listening to vinyls at home? If so, what are you listening to?
Honestly, none of us own record players so we don’t really own any vinyl, but we know how important it is to a lot of other people out there and how passionate so many other people can get with it. But I think it’s important for any record to be able to translate onto vinyl just as much as it would in any other form.

We have noticed that you work a lot on the visuals whether it be on music videos, photos or images in general. They are elaborate and simple at the same time. To you, is this as important as your music? And why this choice of particular black and white colors?
Aesthetic is super important to me and I think it’s something that’s neglected a lot of the time with a lot of bands and just music in general. I’ve grown up taking art classes in school and was originally supposed to go to college for graphic design and visual arts, so I’m always thinking visually almost even more than I think musically. That’s something I wanted to make sure we incorporated into our band, we always want to make sure that have just as much uniqueness and character in a visual sense as we do in our music. They go hand in hand in my eyes.

As for the desaturated look we have a lot of the time, we have a few different reasons. Obviously our record is called White Noise so that’s a no brainer. Also, a lot of our music is pretty dark and touches on things such as death, ghosts and other paranormal topics, when I think of those things I always think of old horror films and scary movies that are either in black and white or very desaturated. But one of the main reasons we do it is because we really want to make people think and draw their own conclusions and interpretations with what we’re saying/doing whether it’s in pictures or in our music. I know sometimes when we see certain colors in images such as single art or album art, it can alter the way we perceive the image as well as the music that goes along with it. In our eyes, the lack of color kind of leaves things open for interpretation and gives you more of an opportunity to perceive it the way you want to.

You have announced a tour in the UK along with some headlining shows. Are you excited or anxious to tour overseas, and especially for the two headlining shows?
We are so so excited! It’ll be our first time overseas and we’ve been wanting to make it over for such a long time. Now we are finally going over! Both the headliner shows sold out within the first day that the tickets went on sale so we’re extremely excited for those dates in particular!

Any chances to see you on a full European run, including Paris? French fans want to see Pvris in Paris.
One day! We’d like to go everywhere possible haha. ESPECIALLY Paris!

What is you favorite part about being on tour, and is there something you always bring with you?
I think my favorite part is just escaping the real world and getting to go up on stage every night and play music with my best friends. I always always bring my laptop and skechpad/notebook!

2014 is coming to an end. What are your new year’s resolutions ?
Hmmmmm… To read more, document my life more, and to lay off the technology and internet a bit haha.

What can we expect from Pvris in 2015 ?
Anything and everything! We have a lot planned but we like to reveal them after we’ve already made them happen ;)
