Dairy farmers are maybe some of the most innovative people I have ever met. They work from sun up to sun down, and most days still have a to-do list a mile long. To make it all work, they must solve problems on the fly and invent solutions that help them get their work done while ensuring the safety and integrity of the animals they care for and the food they produce.

I’m often in awe of the ingenuity and innovations that occur on farms every day that dairy farmers brush off as simply part of a day’s work.

At Dairy Farmers of America, we recognize this innovation and have made this one of our core values, which we strive to live every day. Recently, we put a larger emphasis on collaborating on innovation and committing dedicated resources to this initiative.

One way we are doing this is through our partnership with the Sprint Accelerator.

Sponsoring the Ag Tech segment of the 2017 accelerator will allow us to learn from entrepreneurs who are working to bring new technology to the dairy sector — whether it’s on the dairy farm trying to manage data or looking to manage nutrients effectively, in transporting raw milk to plants and finished products to consumers, even connecting with consumers in grocery stores, farmer’s markets or at their dinner tables. — Kristen Coady, Vice President, Corporate Communications

After all, new developments in agriculture and food production are key to ensuring we continue delivering nutritious dairy to consumers around the world in a safe, sustainable and efficient manner.

We believe bringing new technology to our industry is a partnership, and we are excited to be able to bring our dairy expertise to the entrepreneurs who are selected to join the Accelerator. With experts in every aspect of the dairy supply chain, and with partners joining us that are leaders in lab testing and manufacturing data, there are opportunities to create relationships that will result in more emerging technologies in agriculture.

With innovation occurring each day on nearly 8,000 family farms who own DFA, we owe it to them to be a Cooperative that focuses on fostering innovation that will bring them value.
