You will never grow out your need for God. You can only deepen it.

“Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.”
 — Matthew 6:9 | ESV

Like a badge of honour, being on your own and independent of your parents is one of the hallmarks of maturity in our culture. It shouts, ‘I can make it on my own!’ — not having to abide by their rules, their beliefs, their way of doing life. You are free to make your own way in the world any way you see fit.

Spiritual maturity, however, is very different. Rather than being independent, it is measured by how much more dependent we become on Him. Unlike our earthly fathers, God never runs out of strength. He is powerful; never running out of energy. He is fully capable; never out of time. He is eternal. He is never short of resources; He is limitless.

God isn’t just a Father to us on earth, He is God in Heaven — a realm of possibility, hope, joy, peace and perfection. And it is His desire to bring His world into yours.

Tonight before you rest, take a moment to consider, how can I be more dependent on God in:

  • My relationships?
  • My career?
  • My finances?
  • My future?
