We love podcasts and originally that’s what we set out to create. Together, our group of friends seemed to have the ideal mix of skills to create something special in our medium of choice. Two published authors, two web developers, and an audio engineer. We would collaborate to write, record, edit and publish a sci-fi audio drama a la Bright Sessions and ars PARADOXICA. It was simply a matter of organizing a workflow to combine our skills.

The plan quickly revealed a major obstacle for us to overcome, distance. Our team was scattered around Northern California and remote recording was difficult. Considering how web-based collaboration is just commonplace these days, we didn’t expect that distance would be an obstacle when producing our podcast. To our surprise, we quickly discovered that there were no reliable or simple options available for remote recording.

Looking to the web for help, we found this to be a frequent problem for other podcasters and the community at scale. Novice and experienced podcasters alike were looking to subreddits and Facebook groups hoping to find solutions just like us. Although no solution emerged to meet the community’s needs.

That was it. Away went our sci-fi drama project, relegated along with other great ideas that just didn’t pan out. But as they say, when one door closes, a window opens. We pivoted. If the tools we needed to create were not available, we would just have to become the toolmakers ourselves.

So we shifted our plans to work on building a platform for podcasters to collaborate. If the technology was already there to connect and have conversations all over the world, why shouldn’t there be a recording tool that can do the same?

From the beginning, we were intentional about immersing ourselves within the podcast community, to fully understand their needs. We emphasized collecting feedback by connecting digitally as well as personally with the community at local meetup groups and conferences such as Podcast Movement.

They spoke, and we listened. A common concern that kept repeating itself was a feeling of anxiety about recording remote conversations with strong fidelity. We heard horror stories about connection issues with Skype, lost recordings, and unfriendly customer service when things went wrong. These issues are not minor frustrations. If unresolved, they serve to disrupt the sharing of pivotal conversations that have the potential to spur social change.

We set out to confront these failures of the system head on, empowering people to record and share powerful conversations without the distractions. Podcasting is a diverse medium for sharing personal stories of growth, adventures in fictional dimensions, and providing expert advice or knowledge. Meaningful relationships are formed between podcast hosts, their guests, and their community of listeners. We agree with the community that distance should not be an obstacle to forming and strengthening the connections that podcasts provide.

What would it be like if you could actually trust your tools to faithfully help (not hinder) your project? And for the first time you felt empowered, not anxious, while recording a remote conversation with your guest? You schedule a recording session, invite guest, and record the conversation in HD. Guests receive a beautiful invitation, tap a button, see your face, and hear your voice. No installs, anxiety, or distractions. Just you and your guest enjoying an insightful conversation that your listeners will love.

Over the last year, our team has been meticulously crafting the tool you have been searching for. SquadCast.fm delivers the exceptional experience needed to collaborate with your creators and guests. Take the step and start capturing conversations with confidence. Your first month is on us.
