Jeremiah Lowery Joined us to discuss environmental justice for this episode

With Earth Day and the Science Marches around the country in the rearview mirror, and the People’s Climate March right around the corner on Saturday, April 29, we wanted to focus this episode on the environmental justice movement. We tried out a new format this time, conducting only one interview so that we could have a more in depth conversation. And we needed more time with this conversation, because a guy like Jeremiah Lowery has a lot to talk about.

Jeremiah is a Climate Justice organizer with the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, where he’s organizing and advocating for a carbon fee and rebate program that would encourage clean energy use in the District while providing additional income for residents. He is also a board member of the Sierra Club Washington, D.C. Chapter, a political appointee to the DC Food Policy Council, and serves on the Steering Committee for DC for Democracy. Suffice it to say that Jeremiah’s a busy guy. We broke up the interview with a track called “Dissolved” by Oberris. You can find more of their local brand of melodic death metal on Bandcamp, SoundCloud, and Facebook.

Call to Action

As we mentioned in the show, our number one call to action this episode is to join the People’s Climate March on Saturday, April 29. It’s going to be big, it’s going to be fun, and it’s going to be a powerful showing of public support for good jobs, a healthy climate, and environmental justice for all.

But your involvement can’t stop there. Finding or building a community around the issues that matter most to you is the best way to meet new like-minded people, improve your analysis, and better understand what you can do on the issue. After you get in the streets for the People’s Climate March, find a group that aligns with your values and join. By making your continued engagement part of your routine instead of just a one off event, you’ll be more likely to stay engaged, stay educated, and ultimately to make a bigger impact in your community.
