This term has certainly been a busy one for the clubs and societies at MHS! The Clubs Association began by producing the Discover Clubs handbook, which contains descriptions and contacts of all MHS clubs (available at bit.ly/clubsatmhs). The Club Expo held early in term 1 enabled year 9 students and year 10 entrants to immerse themselves in the variety of activities offered at MHS.

The Clubs association moved ahead with helping clubs organise their dates and venues for upcoming events. Proposals for many new clubs are either in the planning stages or have also been edited and sent for approval, so keep an eye out for member sign-ups! Many new clubs started up this year, including MHS Art Society, Health Club and Soccer Interest Group, which have all seen great student involvement.

Even though the Coronavirus pandemic has meant many forums and events cannot be held, the Clubs Association will continue to provide organisational support and funds to clubs. We hope that the remainder of the year yields success to the club leaders and teams that aim to improve the MHS community through their initiatives.

Some Initiatives and events that clubs have held in Term 1:

· QSA has held a few meetings in preparation for upcoming events throughout the year.

· SHE has held discussions about feminist topics during lunchtimes

· Soccer Interest Group kicked off their Champions League Predictions Tournament, in which participants predict the winners of each match for each leg in the Champions League, with students ranked in the top 3 winning a prize. Unfortunately, the Tournament is in limbo following the suspension of the UCL due to the coronavirus.

· Arts Society ran regular, weekly meetings this term. They ran activities that promoted creativity and provided a great way to chill with friends on a Friday afternoon. Art Society is looking to offer workshops on canvas painting and 3D printing for those interested in trying something new!

· Robotics club began introducing different year levels into the robotics program, outlining the different competitions of the year and beginning to teach them how everything works.

· Soulpower got involved in a breakdance competition called “B.O.T.Y.”

· EAG held their clean up day in collaboration with Macrob Enviro. Students walked down to South Melbourne Beach and Albert Park and picked up rubbish found along the way. Members of EAG also met with the Federal Member for Higgins, Katie Allen, to discuss the role of the State and Federal Governments in meeting the climate challenge.

· Philanthropy enabled students to donate to the Leukaemia Foundation’s through the World’s Greatest Shave, in which many students participated.

Keep posted on Medium for more updates from the Clubs Association!
