So far, drones have covered almost all aspects and backgrounds of technology. Now, teach lovers are trying their luck in a field which is directly linked with artificial intelligence. Search and rescue operation is that field of science which isn’t developed. Drones in this field can come up as a boon for the society. Drones or unmanned aircraft vehicles can be used for searching purpose in an emergency situation. There are many advantages of drones in the searching and rescuing operations.

Modern science is capable enough to conduct complex operations. A drone flying at high altitude which is equipped with a high-resolution camera for daylight and thermal infrared sensors for night time will definitely help in increasing the rescue operations. Infrared thermal sensors can easily sense the heat of the human body; hence this technology will surely help in search and rescue operations.

DRONES IN FIELD OF SEARCH & RESCUE:

A UAV can be used by an intelligence team or by police officers, drones are ideal for searching over a large area for missing persons or any crime victims. Drones are even efficient in weather forecasting, they can provide us with a pre-knowledge for the upcoming hazardous environmental calamities. Drones can easily come up with the situational awareness over the large areas, which will be helping in reducing the wastage of time. In normal search operations, there is a huge wastage of time and labour. Hence, the crowd usually goes for drones.

Last year two intelligence teams, Coastguard Agency and Maritime came together for a cause and responded over seven missions a day, which helped in saving around 1,600 people and rescuing around 7,000 people, this whole incident was taken care by specialized drone.

Search and rescue are among those industries which have been affected on a large scale. There are many aspects in this industry which get fulfilled such as time-lapse, risk of lives, covering a large area in one go. A drone can fly at a speed more than 60mph. Drones record each and every second, which helps in allowing a quick review and comparison of search areas.

APPLICATIONS OF DRONES IN SEARCH & RESCUE SECTOR:

  • Terrorism rescue and search: with the help of thermal infrared sensors, we can sense any terrorist activity from the borders.
  • Monitoring of natural disasters, such as flooding or volcano eruption.
  • Searches for missing persons.
  • Post-disaster relief operations.
  • Monitoring of catastrophes such as nuclear accidents or ship collisions.

PROS & CONS OF DRONES IN SEARCH AND RESCUE SECTOR:

Yes, there are pros as well as cons for drones in search and rescue sector, but when it comes to getting thorough with this sector and counting the benefits, we can easily conclude that the pros weigh more than cons.

Pros:

  • Low maintenance costs.
  • Less time-consuming.
  • Low amount of energy consumption.
  • A decrease in operational expenses.
  • Less life risk.

Cons:

  • Deployment of drones by Coastguard.
  • Cannot stand in bad weather conditions.

FUTURE OF DRONE IN SEARCH & RESCUE SECTOR:

Search and rescue is the best upcoming industry in the field of science for drones. There are many attainments till now which are being added upon the drones. Tech lovers and the UAV scientist are focusing upon some extraordinary development for the drone in this sector. Drones could be soon as essential as ambulance, if we talk about future emergency response.

Major advancements which can come up as a boon are; increase the time span of a drone to fly and to carry heavy loads at a time. Drone is an invention which is developing at the fastest rate possible, introducing drones in searching and rescuing sector is not less than a miracle.
