We can provide our students with more opportunities and resources than ever to help them be prepared for their college entrance exams! With a new school year and college entrance exams approaching, July is a great month to gather and share some important resources.

Preparing Our Students

Even though college entrance exams, such as the ACT and SAT, are just one part of the college application process, it’s important that we support our students and their parents with registration, preparing for the test, and knowing how the tests can benefit them.

Here are an important few items to note when discussing college entrance exams with your students and their parents:

• It is never too early to take your college entrance exams, taking them multiple times during multiple school years can increase your chances of getting a higher score
• Be sure to check registration dates and deadlines on the ACT/SAT website to avoid paying any late registration fees. Dates run by school calendar years, but there are test dates throughout the entire school year and summer.
• There are plenty of free resources available for students to prepare and practice for the different college entrance exams- Google can be your best friend for this!
• Students can check with their school/counselor to see if they are eligible for a fee waiver to take the exams each school year, and many schools will even pay for entire grade levels to take the ACT or SAT so they are free of charge to students.
• During the college application process, be sure to look at score requirements for each college, as well as score requirements to be eligible for the colleges’ scholarships. Increasing your score can be a great way to obtain more scholarships.
• Many colleges and universities also have deadlines for you to submit your college entrance exam scores to be eligible for acceptance or scholarships.
• The SSA agents can support students throughout the entire college entrance exam process: from registering for the exam to submitting test scores to preparing for test day, our agents have plenty of knowledge and resources to help our students every step of the way!
