Katie Harrison (Nepal 2012)

This month we caught up with Katie Harrison who is teaching at Liceo Internado Hornopiren in southern Chile.

Katie is teaching at a high school in Hornopiren, Chile, which is a beautiful rural town in the south of Chile.

She is teaching through a program initiated by the Chilean Ministry of Education to improve the standards of learning English. The goal is to provide teacher professional development and student development to vulnerable public schools. Katie´s job within the program is to motivate students to learn English, expose them to cultural exchanges, and inspire them to become global citizens.

In a recent class, Katie had her students Skype with a class in Colorado. The students in Colorado were speaking Spanish, while her students spoke English. For Katie it was a powerful moment, as it was a cultural exchange where students got to practice their language skills and compare interests and lifestyles.
