Stable Diffusion has seen multiple versions released in a span of just two years. The most well-known versions are 1.5 and SDXL. However, there are many other versions worth mentioning. Let’s explore the origins and progression of Stable Diffusion models.
The Absence of Stable Diffusion Version 1.0
The earliest version of Stable Diffusion is 1.1. It released by CompVis not Stability AI. Interestingly Stable Diffusion was never a version 1.0. The initial model called Latent Diffusion, it was developed by CompVis and included text-to-image and inpainting capabilities. This model is essentially what would be considered Stable Diffusion 1.0. But no further updates were made to Latent Diffusion as it evolved into Stable Diffusion.
