Every business card tells a story about the identity of a store, person or restaurant. It is the first thing you take and share with someone else when recommending a place or person for a specific occasion. However, the design part of the cards representing its ‘owners’ identity are most of the time overlooked. Does the graphic design of the card tell us the same story about the space/person itself? Let’s find out! This edition: Papier Tigre in Paris.

Colors, bold patterns, and an interplay of lines welcome you in the traditional streets of Rue des Filles du Calvaire in Paris. Welcome to Papier Tigre. A store filled with stationery and interior accessoires that make the hearts of a stationery-lover and design enthusiast beat slightly faster.

So what does the business card tell us?

The design, the quality of the paper and the odd size points us to a business that is bold, creative and stubborn. What kind of store or place it is, is not directly clear at first glimpse. What you would expect, is a bright and light space, filled with Scandinavian influences and Japanese paper.

Does the design of the card capture the essence of the store?

Yes! Even though the odd sized card has so little space, it shows exactly what Papier Tigre is about. Bold, yet minimal patterns, that are used in a variety of objects. That’s also why it does not really matter that the function of the business isn’t indicated. It shows character, and the outcome can be everything. In this case a stationery and interior accessoires store.

Papier Tigre is a brand that does not hold back for reinventing and trying new patterns. Since 2012, the owners have build their brand from scratch and still do everything themselves: from marketing to designing and from packaging to sales. The designs are made in the back of the store and whenever the store closes their business continues on their awesome Instagram-account. Because of the local production chain, every item is limitedly in stock. That means their patterns come and go as they please. Enough reason to come back again and again.
