Every business card tells a story about the identity of a store, person or restaurant. It is the first thing you take and share with someone else when recommending a place or person for a specific occasion. However, the design part of the cards representing its ‘owners’ identity are most of the time overlooked. Does the graphic design of the card tell us the same story about the space/person itself? Let’s find out! This edition: Parqiet — het Parkcafé in Rotterdam.

At the foot of the Euromast in the midst of Rotterdam, you find Euromastpark. The park was neglected by tourists and Rotterdammers themselves for years. Luckily, times change. In the park you can now find a beautiful carriage house, renewed and renovated for the purpose of good food and excellent drinks: Parqiet.

So, what does the business card tell us?

As you could see above, the front of the card has minimalist leaves, implying a sense of cleanliness, quietness, and serene surroundings. A beauty salon maybe? The sense of serenity is followed through in the choice of logo and fonts. A parakeet landed in the middle of the logo, representing both the name and the idea of settling down, resting for a bit and then moving along again. Just like birds do.

Does the design of the card capture the essence of the brand?

Hm, tough one. As mentioned above, the card represents something serene, clean and minimalist. Yes, in theory the leaves and minimalism correspond to the surroundings of the park and the minimalist interior. However, the serenity of the deal is different in reality. As said before, you find Parqiet in an old carriage house in the midst of the park. Making it a favorite spot for young families. And young families, well, let’s state that they don’t create a serene and calm environment. The look & feel of the card suggests a green, natural and aesthetic interior, which is the case. The carriage house has been made over, filled with a cozy fireplace, wooden benches and wonderful illustrations on the walls. The empty walls behind the bar are filled with a variety of plants, taking the outside indoors. Parqiet offers a delight of treats on their menu, making it the perfect place for a coffee, drink or even to get some work done. When family time is done, that is.
