We’re excited to announce the addition of Sequoia Capital and Binance-backed Band Protocol — a unique decentralized data oracle, to our list of supported staking projects.

Band Protocol serves as a framework for applications to query real-time data reliably and securely on-demand, as and when it’s required. Running a Band Protocol validator enables us to reliably connect any blockchain applications to any external data point, allowing smart contracts to have more expansive use-cases in decentralized finance (DeFi) and beyond.

Band Protocol on ATLAS.

Stakers will have another avenue to stake BAND tokens and earn rewards on our ATLAS dashboard. This partnership will also see marketing collaboration and initiatives for our community supporters, plus contributions of technical feedback on Band Protocol’s oracle software.

“To work closely with a fellow South-East Asian project that is backed by a distinguished government fund is extremely exciting for the validation of Band Protocol and the blockchain ecosystem as a whole. We look forward to co-hosting many community events across the entire SEA alongside StakeWithUs in the years to come.“

— Soravis Srinawakoon, CEO & Co-Founder of Band Protocol

Why Band Protocol?

Decentralized oracles are the hardest problems to solve within the blockchain space. We’re confident that Band Protocol will have the potential to become a core player in the DeFi ecosystem to solve data availability and data reliability problems.

We foresee that Band Protocol will become a critical player in the Cosmos IBC ecosystem, having built its independent blockchain using the Cosmos SDK. As such, they will be able to communicate and feed reliable data over the IBC protocol to support any application in the Cosmos ecosystem seamlessly. Furthermore, they have a key focus on being blockchain-agnostic with their partners, enabling seamless connections to any other blockchain through bridge contracts or Cosmos-based blockchain through IBC.

Our due diligence further includes the following points that have helped enhance our decision to support Band Protocol:

Strong Technical Team

The Band Protocol team has since exhibited strong technical skills that were proven in their first Ethereum mainnet launch in October 2019 and two quarter fast-tracked development for BandChain. The talented bunch holds credible backgrounds in areas of Computer Sciences with illustrious history at places like BCG, Quora, Dropbox, Tripadvisor, and even Hudson River Trading.

Presence and Support from Established Partners

Their go-to-market and Ethereum mainnet launch (which coincided with their Binance Launchpad IEO) was a notable success. It led to multiple partnerships with bZx, Troy, Tomochain, Elrond, Portal Network, Constant and more. They have also secured institutional backing from Binance, Sequoia Capital, Dunamu & Partners, SeaX — all of which justifies validation for their competitive oracle solution.

Flexible and Customizable Data Query

BandChain had introduced a smart data request script that enables dApps to have full flexibility and customizability over data oracles — so developers can define how the data they need is being sourced and aggregated. According to Band Protocol’s bZx partnership, data can be consumed safely through a time-weighted basis, via volume-weight, medianized, or by any developer-defined method.

“Reliable and timely provisioning of real-world data is essential for Web 3.0 applications to go mass market. We’re excited to partake this journey with Band Protocol and bootstrap the network on both the infrastructure and data provisioning layer.”

— Michael Ng, Co-Founder of StakeWithUs

Band Protocol will be live in May 2020, joining our list of supported staking projects — Cosmos Network, Terra Network, Kava Labs, IOV, and Persistence. In the meantime, you can register your interest with us here.

Band Protocol

Band Protocol is a decentralized oracle framework for Web3.0 applications. Band Protocol connects smart contracts with trusted off-chain information, provided through community-curated oracle data providers. Blockchains are enabled to connect to any web API with assured data integrity through dPoS economic incentives through one simple function call. Developers using Band Protocol will be able to easily build and manage off-chain oracles, reputation scores, identity management systems, and much more.
