Originally this episode aired December 4th 2016. Prior name of the Podcast was Tea with Puppets.

In Episode 9, we look at the 2016 holiday stamps issued by Canada Post.

The first three stamps we review are inspired by Rolf Harder one of the most prolific modern Canadian Stamp designers in history with over 70 designs to his credit. You can check out all his stamps here, but below are some of the most recognizable, that you may have in your collection.

Title: XII Olympic Winter Games, Innsbruck, 1976

Date of Issue: 6 February 1976
Title: Commonwealth Day, 1983/03/14

Title: Fort Chambly, Que.
Denomination: 32¢
Date of Issue: 30 June 1983
Title: Parliament

Below are the Holiday issues, designed by Hélène L’Heureux, developed from Rolf Harder’s original illustrations under the art direction of his daughter, Vivi Harder.

On the domestic stamp, a smiling Santa stands in the snow facing a jovial tree.

On the U.S.-rate stamp, a vibrant green tree is adorned with a red Santa hat.

The international-rate stamp features a white dove, carrying an olive branch, a symbol of peace.

The fourth stamp released for the 2016 holiday season depicts the Virgin and Child, from the painting done by Master of the Castello Nativity, in 1460.

It was donated by the Michal and Renata Hornstein in 2012 to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

The stamp was beautifully photographed by Brian Merrett and designed by Louise Methe. This was made possible, of course, by courtesy of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

This is the second such collaboration. Last year’s one of Canada Post’s holiday stamps was The Adoration of the Magi by 16th-century artist Adriaen Isenbrandt (seen below), was also part of Horstein’s donated collection.
