Originally this episode aired October 23 2016. Prior name of the Podcast was Tea with Puppets.

In our first episode we celebrate the Chicago Cubs historic entry to their first World Series since 1945, with a look back at Baseball stamps in Canadian history.

Scott #1221

The first stamp we spoke a 37 cent stamp called “Baseball in Canada” (Scott #1221) issued in 1988, to celebrate the over 150 years of rich Baseball history in Canada. The stamp was designed by Les Holloway. More details here.

Scott #1901

The second stamp covered was a 47 cent stamp to commemorate the 25th year of the Blue Jays (Scott #1901), issued in 2001. Canada Post commissioned renowned designer Paul Haslip to produce a stamp. More details here.

Scott #2434

The third stamp was honouring Chicago Cub All-Star and Canadian Fergie Jenkins. The 59-cent stamp (Scott #2434) depicts a young Jenkins on the pitcher’s mound with the Chicago Cubs, set behind a modern photo of Jenkins on the Canadian Walk of Fame in Toronto in 2001. His Order of Canada medal hangs between the images. More details here.

So there you have it, three stamps celebrating baseball in Canada. I know in Canada it’s all about Hockey (for the most part), but hopefully one day more Canadian baseball stars can get their due such as Russell Martin, Larry Walker, Justin Morneau and Joey Votto.
