Tell us the story behind your shop.
We opened nearly 17 years ago! I was a classical violist and got tired of the relentless travel and loved coffee, so a coffee shop seemed the next obvious career choice.
Tell us one an important lesson you’ve learned through your work in coffee.
I have learned many things over my time in specialty coffee. The most important is that people make businesses successful. Whether that is great staff or the people that visit your coffee shop. A coffee shop can become the hub of a local community and should be a vibrant and friendly place for people to meet and relax.
What is the most unique thing about Huddersfield?
Huddersfield is a dichotomy in many ways, a former mill/industrial town that seems to follow its traditional roots while being a melting pot for the arts, including the world-renowned Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.
If you could only use one piece of Brewing equipment for the rest of your life, what would you choose and why?
Chemex. Just super clean coffee.
Other than coffee, what would be the hardest food or drink for you to give up?
Really excellent traditionally baked bread.
The most important is that people make businesses successful.
Is there a country of origin that you tend to favour coffee from?
This is for ever changing depending on which coffee we’re roasting at the time. I would say African coffees, particularly Ethiopian.
