A Call to Action for Each of Us
I stand behind our employees and the communities who are rising up against the racism, oppression and inequality behind the treatment of Black people in America.
At the same time, I am not willing to stand on the sidelines waiting for a solution. This needs to change now. I want to be clear on our stance and next steps.
Turning Point for Real Change
Change starts with voting in state and local elections. Yet, turnout is miserable especially for people in my generation — millennials who will soon overtake Baby Boomers as the largest voting bloc. It can’t be for not caring. So why is turnout so low?
- Local elections are unpredictable — unlike one presidential election date for everyone in the country, local elections are set at different times by county. If it’s a special election, dates change yet again.
- Local political ad spend is at a disadvantage — getting into millennials’ feeds means beating out the largest global brands that are vying for our attention. It’s expensive and especially not feasible for uncontested elections with minimal budgets. So we miss things.
Doing our Part
It’s on us to make sure you never miss an opportunity to vote because you did not know about it.
We’re kicking off an initiative at Stanza to create schedules for all state and local elections.
Why calendar? So you can plan ahead and educate yourself about candidates and issues on the ballot. This is one of the more important decisions you’ll be making.
