The State of The Story

Speaker: Megan Cunningham, Founder/CEO of Magnet Media

6:30pm. For those trying to navigate the fragmentation of traditional media, we can look to all creators — filmmakers, brands and media companies — who are inventing a new kind of storytelling. Some of these elements we already know: storytelling needs to be more social, more mobile, more visual and more authentic. But for monetization to be sustained, a new frontier of cross-platform storytelling is also emerging.

The most successful players are embracing emerging trends — like podcasts, purpose-driven narratives, and influencer collaboration — to build audience, and improve engagement. “The power of a well-told story distributed in a strategic way can change minds and overturn industries; and the playbook is being written today.” Join us to hear about the new possibilities — and business potential — for storytelling.

7:45pm. A spontaneous think tank and a way of meeting, sharing, and learning. Attendees co-create the agenda around what they want to talk about so the topics are relevant and meaningful. Attendees facilitate those conversations as the experts and they leave feeling like family. The brainstorms that occur here will determine Sunday’s Unconference sessions.

Filmmaker speed networking

8:15pm. Networking can be awkward, especially when it takes an hour to establish context for the people around you. We’ll help you cut out the small talk and get to the good stuff, matching you to fellow filmmakers to help you meet and find new collaborators.

11:15am. While the future of fiction short-form content is constantly changing, digital non-fiction series are thriving. This panel will feature the producers and hosts of nonfiction series to discuss the development of a great real-world idea, the challenges and strategies in depicting real people and stories, crafting an entertaining narrative out of real life, and more.

Getting Women Paid

12:30pm. We all know the numbers and that Hollywood continues to have a serious gender imbalance when it comes to pay. Hear from women who have addressed this issue in their own careers and get actionable advice on how to manage these conversations and demand what you’re worth.
