Yesterday, Amazon Kindle sent a mass email out to its entire author community, announcing Kindle Vella’s closure in early 2025. Here is the header paragraph of the announcement in its entirety:

We’ve made the difficult decision to gradually wind down Kindle Vella in February 2025 as the program hasn’t caught on as we’d hoped. We are grateful for the authors who have participated and for the stories you have shared with readers. We remain committed to experimenting and testing new ideas to deliver unique and delightful experiences for both readers and authors.

After this short statement, the announcment was followed by multiple paragraphs of next steps for authors of the platform. TL;DR: as of today, new stories and comments aren’t permitted on Kindle Vella. New episodes to existing stories won’t be allowed to be added after December 4, 2024. In addition, Amazon Kindle will be offering a path to directly convert Kindle Vella stories to KDP eBooks.
