Introducing OSCAR
On July 1th we officially launched our new project called OSCAR (Open-Source Car) — a self-driving car aimed to level 4 autonomy. We believe that with StarLine engineers and open technologies we can contribute greatly to the autonomous driving industry and increase safety on Russian roads.
But let’s talk for a moment about StarLine and why we decided to start this project.
StarLine is a Russian company which specialises in production and development of vehicle telematic security systems, as well as the telematics software. We’re pretty familiar across the Russia and today more than 15 000 000 car owners can be sure that they will find their car where they left it.
Besides that we develop various products like fleet management system, pay-per-mile insurance, auto dealer solution and others. Of course, one of them is OSCAR.
To make things clear, there are actually two self-driving cars in StarLine — RICAR and OSCAR. You can read more about first car at StarLine website, while here we’re focusing mostly on OSCAR project.
As we mentioned in the beggining, OSCAR is aimed to Level 4 autonomy and based on a luxury Lexus RX450h. The project is on the Planning stage right now, but we’re already making first steps on the way to driverless future.
OSCAR team (breavily led by Alex Nikiforov) is pretty small yet full of very talented and passionated people. We don’t want people to just accept self-driving vehicles. We want people to love self-driving cars and use them on the daily basis. Self driving isn’t just a new feature —it’s a transformation of the fundamental relationships between people, cars, and the world around them. As a result, we can make Russian roads safer, relieve people from countless hours of wasting driving and help cities to deal with traffic jams.
