Around 10 or 11 years ago Monny (Monika) got her first tattoo done at a stylised studio in the city. Having always been a creative person who loves to draw and having fell in love with the environment of a tattoo studio it was definitely something she could get stuck into.

I didn’t think about as a job or anything, I thought of it as more of a hobby, so I began researching what to do and just bought some cheap machines from eBay to begin with.

When Monny was 18, having just moved out of her Mom’s house she began working in a studio and started to observe her peers whilst getting taught the ropes by a mentor. After the studio was sold by the owner she made her way to England and worked through agencies whilst striving for her career in tattooing by working at studios on weekends. After practise and persistence Monny landed an opportunity to work in a studio in Macclesfield where she worked for 5 years until eventually moving again.

Vibrancy. High Contrast, Bold Lines. Solid Colour. Describing Monny’s work will never do the art itself enough justice. Her Animal realism work has certainly put her on the map in the tattoo community and she’s seen her diary fill up quicker and quicker since smashing out some of her finer pieces at conventions and winning awards for them.

The more room she has for a canvas, the better the result and when her client allows her to throw her own spin on certain designs, she knows exactly what colours to throw together to make an impact. She is picking up new styles and trying new colours all the time which is keeping her work fresh!

I mix styles as I feel it introduces something new to a design!

Monny has been collecting prestigious awards for her work and even received x3 awards for one piece she did at Tattoo Freeze 2019 — Best of colour, Best of Saturday and Best of Show for her colourful vibrant Hyena piece below.
