I am starting my third startup. This time, it is not just a SaaS product — it is bigger!
My last startup was a visitor management system for care homes. It happened because my first startup got stuck due to the pandemic. I did well with MeetMyBrian, and I learned a lot!
But, I found out I did not have the passion for marketing the product. I had doubts about scaling and handling big challenges.
I also had little money for the business, so I could not market and sell the product well. But MeetMyBrian was needed because care homes needed better visitor management systems during the pandemic to address the challenges around care home visiting.
I cared about my solution but did not have a clear vision for developing the idea quickly, as startups need. I was not prepared because everything happened so suddenly.
I spoke with another entrepreneur whose startup did not do well. He mentioned that it was because he lacked a clear vision. This made me realise that I am stuck because I am not sure what to do next. I lack vision too!
After thinking deeply, I realised that I want to do something that makes me happy and fulfilled. I realised that I was trying to fix the sadness in my life through my startup. All I wanted was to do something good and meaningful in my life.
Before I could address the problems in the care homes, I had to ask myself what I really needed. I tried to solve care home problems as an entrepreneur, from a business perspective, but I knew my approach was wrong.
My previous startups helped care homes, but to truly improve care quality, we need to empower and support the care home workforce. That is my vision, and I am working towards it!
Now, I accept that I am working towards a vision so that I know, this time, I am not just making a SaaS product. I am building an organisation that can handle challenges and improve the quality of life in care homes with a good, caring workforce.
