StarTime has been branching out to more NFL teams — the latest team being the Seattle Seahawks! The first Seahawk player to debut on StarTime is wide-receiver, Jermaine Kearse. Like most, Kearse started playing football in highschool. He began as a Lancer at Lakes High School in Washington. He then played for the Huskies at the University of Washington where he was named second team All-Pac-10 for two consecutive years. After a great career in college football, Kearse was unfortunately not selected in the NFL draft, but he signed as an undrafted free agents with the Seahawks in 2012. He became an asset for the team. In 2014, the team won Super Bowl XLVIII against the Denver Broncos where Kearse scored a touchdown.

Along with playing professional football, Kearse is very involved in his community. When deciding which cause he should support, he looked back on his own life growing up. His father, David Kearse, was in the military so his family would move around often. Kearse understands the challenges of being raised in a military family. Studies show that youth in military families struggle more in school. The Seahawks wide-receiver established the 15 to 1: Jermaine Kearse Foundation to supports children in military families so they beat the stereotype. He created this foundation “to motivate youth in military families to work hard, persevere and believe in order to overcome adversity and find success through positive choices, experiences and opportunity.” Kearse’s foundation has increased educational opportunities for military youth.

More recently, the football player has been visiting local high schools to teach kids why it is important to stay in school. In 2016, Washington was named the second in the nation’s worst rates of chronically school absences. This statistic inspired Kearse to make a difference in Washington school’s attendance rates. During his visits, the football player.
