What are two things that go hand in hand? Beer and Baseball! Our latest star, Kevin Youkilis, is a former professional baseball player from Cincinnati, Ohio who now owns Loma Brewing Company in Los Gatos, California (West coast, best coast.. amirite?). Youk played first and third basemen for three major MLB teams: the Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, and New York Yankees. While playing for the Red Sox, he won 2 World Series Championships. In addition, he was given the most prestigious award a defensive player in the MLB can receive, the Golden Glove. The following year he was awarded the 2008 Hank Aaron Award.

The three time All-Star player is known for his ability to get on base and unique batting stance. His physique made people question his ability to play baseball but he proved them wrong and excelled at the sport. Youk once held baseball’s record for most consecutive errorless games at first base.

Youk retired from professional baseball in 2014 when he was playing for the Yankees. Baseball players are usually in their late 30s when they retire so they still have so much time in life to find another passion. In this case, Youk’s passion was beer. While traveling to different cities for games, Youk made it his mission to find the best craft beers in different breweries. This inspired him to open Loma Brewing Company with his brother two years after retirement. However, Youk is still involved with baseball as he is currently the special assistant for the Chicago Cubs, who won the World Series in 2016.
