Welcome to ‘The Start Out’
This week I decided to start ‘The Start Out’ with the aim of collecting and collating ideas, stories and advice from a whole range of people on starting out in the world of work.
With millions of students receiving their A-levels & GCSEs results recently it got me thinking about how I got from school to where I am now and I realised I’ve been lucky to have some brilliant advice and support along the way. If I hadn’t of met the people I’ve met and had the experiences I’ve had I might not be in this position right now.
So to kick-off ‘The Start Out’ I asked my twitter base to share their advice and ideas for young people looking to start their career. Here are a few of the tweets and themes:
Don’t be afraid of not knowing what you are doing
But keep learning, particularly from those around you
Keep reading, writing & exercising!
Be ambitious, push your limits… but be practical about it too
And listen to the people in your life who inspire you :-)
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the #startingout twitter stream. Keep them coming and don’t forget to follow @startoutcareer.
I’m also looking for people who are willing to write blog post for “The Start Out” to help young people in the world of work. It can be very specific or broad, it can be long or short, it can be about your own experiences or a comment on the world in general. It can be whatever you like so long as it might help at least one young person to realise their potential.
