The HLPF is the current United Nations platform on sustainable development. It follows up and reviews the implementation of sustainable development commitments and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In its 2016 meeting from July 11–20th, the HLPF will cover a wide array of topics relating to the SDG’s and their progress so far. Some sessions are relevant to business’ role in SDG success and, therefore, the growing ecosystem of impact investing.

Here’s where we see the most potential for overlap:

  1. SDG Business Forum

This all day event, which takes place on Tuesday, July 19th, is the most relevant for impact investing.

The forum begins with a series of rapid fire presentations to highlight examples of what businesses are doing to implement each SDG. Additional sessions cover such topics as Private Sector Investment in the 2030 Agenda: Going from Billions to Trillions; Private Sector Participation in Partnerships; and Monitoring the SDGs: The Business Perspective.

Speakers include representatives from companies Pfizer, MasterCard, Microsoft TV, IFC Asset Management Company, Citigroup and Johnson & Johnson; as well as UN, government and nonprofit leaders.

2. Challenges in mobilizing means of implementation at the national level (Financing — Technology — Capacity building)

3. Are we already being left behind? The role of civil society and stakeholders on national reviews of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

3. Follow the money: using open data to track SDG funding and results

4. Sustainable Finance to achieve the SDGs: accelerating implementation of the 2030 Agenda through private-sector action

5. Civil society as an active player in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda — models and perspectives from the EU and other world regions
