In the the previous article, we talked about the main organizations that are useful to know about for an active student or future entrepreneur.

Most of them occasionally hold hackathons and this is one of the favorite events of Tartu youth. Why? Let’s find out.

5 reasons why you should visit at least 1 Estonian hackathon:

1) Crazy charge of motivation🤩

It’s one thing to read books and watch films about guys from the garage who were able to move to a large bright office, expand the team, start making millions and, in general, make the world the better place with just the help of perseverance and hard work. But it is completely different to see such a person in front of you and be able to communicate with him in real time.

Energy exchange and inspiration are guaranteed. Moreover, who knows, maybe this communication will develop into long-term cooperation, mentoring or career prospects.

2) Intensive pumping of various skills🙂

As a rule, participants have to create a prototype of a product from idea-sketch in a certain limited period of time, so the whole team must work together. Each member needs to understand the vision and objectives of the others, immersed in the process. It often happens that to speed up the process and improve quality, team mates hold express master classes for each other on one another’s specialization in order to delegate responsibilities.

Not surprisingly that after one hackathon a person wants to go to another one. The more you learn, the more you understand how much you don’t know. And you really want to know!

3) Delicious food 🥗

In order for the brain to work productively and the body to remain in good shape, a person needs to consume a certain amount of vitamins and minerals. It is very cool when you can do this by eating not only healthy, but also very tasty food. Estonian hackathons take care of this wonderfully well.

Fresh pastries, an abundance of vegetables and fruits, a variety of drinks (water, tea, coffee, smoothies) are a must have of any coffee break.

Moreover, if the program of the event involves work from early morning until late evening, the participants will certainly be offered hot dishes. Porridge with jam or scrambled eggs for breakfast, soup and a side dish with a cutlet (vegan options are usually also provided) for lunch.

4) Awareness of the latest market trends and effective working schemes📉👁

The mentors’ advice to the teams is based not only on an individual approach, but also on the current state of the economy and the actual needs of clients. Moreover, teams will probably have the opportunity to listen to a few presentations on innovations and recently announced technologies before starting to work on the prototype. Thanks to this, after the event itself, the brain continues to generate ideas based on what it has heard.

5) Ability to work in a team and Stress tolerance 😇

Already formed teams do not always come to the hackathon, most of them are formed directly on the spot from completely different guys.

A beginner in this business has to use soft skills to the maximum in order to have time to work with the rest as quickly as possible. A stressful unique experience that guarantees future success in integration into any team.

Have you been to hackathons? If so, what special things do you remember from them?
