Let’s Take a Peek at the Future of Tech: Basedspace Hackathon Welcomed 100+ Builders In Vilnius
And I got to be part of this Vibe Coding movement
Last weekend was quite busy for me — participating in a hackathon is never a walk in a park. But, boy, it was exciting AF!!
Let me give you some context.
Basedspace, a Vilnius-based hacker house, hosted a hackathon event from the 12th to the 14th of September in collaboration with none other than Cursor. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it?
Accidentally stumbling upon this announcement on LinkedIn was enough for me to pack my bags and travel all the way to the Lithuanian capital to attend this event.
As soon as I stepped into the venue, I could just feel the dynamic environment of builders discussing their ideas and deciding what solutions to work on throughout the event.
Imagine giving a child a bunch of Lego cubes — they will start building all sorts of “cool things” right? They will sit there all day long and create whatever they have in their minds.
That’s exactly the impression I got from this hackathon. Organizers did everything to provide builders with a bunch of new AI/ Vibe Coding tools and a suitable environment to bring their craziest ideas to life.
The overall experience was nothing short of fascinating, and I’d love to tell you all about it in this article.
Let’s gooo
What Is Basedspace?
Basedspace is an invite-only hacker space in Vilnius. They are a community of early-stage founders and ambitious builders, offering not only a workspace but an but an environment for learning, collaboration, and growth.
Their website says that Basedspace is for — “the builders, the doers, and the ones who see things differently” — hopefully you all know where this last bit comes from.
Manifesto also says — “this is where it might work becomes holy sh*t it works” — and I think this is the best way to describe the archetype of builders residing in their space.
How Did the Hackathon Go?
As you’ve probably guessed from the introductory part of this article, I loved the overall hackathon experience.
I found it really inspiring to surround myself with people who share the same passion for building, solving problems, and improving their skills along the way.
It all started with welcoming words from the co-founders of Basedspace, Jonas and Ignas, as well as the representatives of partners and sponsors of this event like Cursor.
After that, we, as participants, found comfy corners around the venue and started building our solutions.
There were 2 main tracks we could choose from:
- Moonshot track — where we could build our crazy ideas without any boundaries.
- Partner track — where we could solve real business challenges coming from the hackathon sponsors and partners.
Of course, the Vibe Coding, AI agents, and automations were the main themes for almost every single team in this event.
After the 48 hours of hard work, failed iterations, and judgy looks from mentors, we all got to show our demos to a live audience straight from our workstations.
This way, jury members chose the Top 10 teams who finally got to present during the finals.
Final pitching session was interesting too — 10 of the most sophisticated teams (at least that’s what they told us) showed us their demos and results they achieved all throughout the hackathon.
I must say, they put on a cool show, which wrapped up the grand Basedspace hackathon this year.
I’ll be honest, though — mentors part could have been improved and the overall program could have benefited from some little tweaks here and there, but as one of the co-founders of Basedspace, Ignas, told me in the end — “this is just the beginning” — so let’s see how it all develops in the future.
That’s All Cool, but What Did You Build?
Great question!
Developing my project in an online media field, I wanted to build something that would solve problem of communication between journalists and founders.
Yes — preparing a proper Press Release documents are the true hassle for every single non-creative founder out there (I honestly believe 99% of tech founders have serious problems with creativity).
So I Vibe Coded a simple website that asks founders 5 questions about their startup and generates a well-written press release for them.
Vision was not to build another AI-writer tool, and that’s why I fed my agent real insights from 50+ journalists to ensure compelling output.
The tool also gives a list of most appropriate journalists and are likely to cover a story and get you a coverage.
Anyways, I’m planning to further develop this tool in my free time. Let’s see where it goes in the future.
Wrapping Up
It was really awesome to visit Vilnius for the weekend and participate in the Basedspace hackathon to challenge my ideas and develop my skills.
It is always inspiring to meet other likeminded builders and individuals who are always eager to bring their ideas to life.
Having organized a hackathon myself, I know how hard it is to make it happen at this level. Thanks to the organizing team for putting together this event!!
Until next time:)
