You don’t know about data science or deep learning, but you’ve heard it’s the new toaster that’s leveling up Google translate, crowding up your Lyft Line, and stacking your Spotify queue… and you want in or at least see what the buzz is all about. Is this really the future, and can you be a part of it as a data scientist or a programmer with data science chops?

I’m assuming you’ve already done your homework, but if you haven’t you can listen to our first episode about why we decided to learn data science. Now I’ll focus on why listening to this podcast is a great way to learn data science or deep learning for people who have some programming experience, even if it’s just from a couple classes a few years ago and you don’t really remember too much but have written code that does things nonetheless.

So I learned a lot so far by making this podcast and studying data science through deep learning. This podcast captures our study review sessions and from a diverse crew of people: those looking to be experts, women, and from non-traditional programming backgrounds. By going through this class specifically, you learn how to apply deep learning to pretty much any programming problem, even if there’s not a lot of data and even if you don’t know about math, statistics or probability. For me specifically, I know a lot more about what’s possible and that informs how I build my current nonprofit startup.

If only you could learn as much by listening to this podcast as we did by making it. Actually, we designed the podcast so compared to us, you’ll learn more. Here’s how:

  1. Best 2 minute summary Everr!! — every podcast begins with a high-level summary of what it’s about. Easier than reading the wiki, great for prepping your mind for tackling the material, awesome as a quick review.
  2. Internal Motivation — learning something new and technical can be a lonely endeavor — lots of niche problems and difficult to find solutions. Every podcast we share our insecurities and how we overcame them so you can learn from our mistakes and share in our humanity and build up your internal motivation plus sense of camaraderie. You’re not alone!!
  3. External Motivation — learning can be dry too. Why am I doing this again… because of all the cool things you can build, or more importantly, build things that people say they need. We also talk in every podcast about — based on what we’ve learned — what we’re excited about and the possibilities of what we’re learning and how it can be used.
  4. Dodge Pitfalls — especially with technological setups or following sometimes unclear directions, it’s easy to get stuck — for hours, something that takes 5 minutes to solve. We spent those extra hours and talk about what you can do to avoid frustration and learn more.
  5. Remembering Tactics — we also go over difficult or interesting concepts and discuss together what they really mean and ways to remember them.
  6. All in about 30 minutes per podcast!! So much learning packed into so little space!!

Yes, if you’ve read about Data Science and really want to get started but haven’t started yet, then consider Startup Data Science — it’s made for people like you!!
