Startup Studio Spotlight: Entweder

Thank you for checking out Startup Studio Insider! For our returning readers, we appreciate your support and continuous interest in learning more about the ins and outs of the world of startup studios. For our newcomers, welcome! Here at Startup Studio Insider, we cover all things startups and all of the opportunities (or challenges) that may come with taking your venture to the next level with the help of startup studios. Today, we are taking the blog all the way to Almelo, Netherlands, for a studio spotlight on Entweder (pronounced ‘En-ve-der’).

Entweder’s promise and mission stand at the core of their work: to make lasting positive contributions to the evolution of the workspace with successful ventures. This European-based startup studio believes that with innovative ventures, it is possible to develop a workspace in which productivity and output are equally counter-balanced with well-being. Entweder starts, builds, finances, and sells “proven ventures.” These ventures have gone through intensive development and optimization, evolving from start-up to scale-up, and are now ready to serve the general public.

We were impressed to learn that Entweder was only founded in 2018, as they have been able to launch a considerable amount of startups ever since they entered the startup studio scene. Some of their most notable ventures include:

  1. Bouncespace
  2. Skepp
  3. Bow
  4. Ditt
  5. Ovvice
  6. Campus Offices
  7. Atoomclub
  8. Launch Desk
  9. HNK
  10. Dreesz

With organizations developing faster than ever before, Entweder offers an opportunity to supply and complete fit-out packages for offices and more. With this innovative approach to the future of workspace, we were intrigued and eager to learn more about Entweder and what it has to offer organizations. If we have piqued your interest, keep reading for a quick interview between Startup Studio Insider and one of the leading minds at Entweder!

1. What sets you apart from the rest of the competition in the startup studio space?

  • All of our ventures are contributing to the future of the workspace.
  • All of our ventures are surrounded around the physical space where people work or, as we call it, the ‘Workspace.’ Our vision around the evolution of the workspace is the following:

Entweder believes that the time of offices as “type factories” is definitively behind us. Our workspaces have become places for exchange. Exchange of ideas, planned and unplanned meetings, workplaces, and certainly of energy. All of this in an environment characterized by an ever-higher level of service and technology.

A next step is that “outside” and even the surrounding area become part of our workspace: functions begin to merge, work and private life become even more mixed and come together in the so-called “third place.” Working becomes ‘being.’

Own fund

  • Our ventures are funded out of our own funds.
  • Model of ‘entrepreneurial employment’ ( https://www.entweder.vc/en/future-ventures-en/ ). This leads to 100% of the equity for our studio.
  • We’ve developed our own model to incentivize the entrepreneurs within the ventures. We call this model the entrepreneurial-employment model.

2. How has the startup studio model allowed you and your studio’s companies to navigate the pandemic?

This means that our ventures are gaining a lot more traction.

3. How would you describe your studio’s approach to developing new ideas?

  • All our ventures are around the ‘future of the workspace.’
  • We turn the problems we face while building Entweder and our ventures into new business ideas. Besides this, we’re constantly monitoring trends within the market.
  • Some of the advantages of this are that we always have a launching customer when we start up our ventures and that we’re 100% sure that we’re actually solving a real problem.

Once we decide to take our idea to the market, the following innovation curve becomes relevant.

As you can see, we have the innovators stage at the beginning of the venture.

Within this stage, which usually takes about one year, we strive to find the perfect product-market fit (PMF) and make sure that our venture becomes a proven venture that embodies our pay-off, Proven Workspace Innovation.

After this stage, the venture arrives in the early adopter’s stage.

This stage aims to scale the venture, which has found its perfect product-market fit, to specific goals. This stage usually takes about 4–5 years.

After this stage, we believe that Entweder has fulfilled its role within the innovation curve, and we’ll seek a possible buyer who will scale the venture even further.

4. What services do you offer your startups?

  • Our studio offers the following:
  1. Market knowledge
  2. (Marketing) strategy
  3. Administration & accounting
  4. Full-stack development
  5. Branding & identity
  6. Content
  7. Media & Communication
  8. Relevant network
  9. UX / UI design
  10. Recruiting
  11. Physical workspace
  12. Funding
  13. Launching customers
  14. Positive track record on which to flourish

5. How do you source your clients, and how do you decide which ideas to take into your studio for further development?

  • Ideation based on problems being faced by our other ventures and concrete market trends we’re monitoring.
  • The other ventures are always the launching customer of the venture, which is solving the problem.
  • If our solution works, we scale up. If it doesn’t, we enlarge our 100+ list of unused URLs.

6. What does the studio’s level of involvement look like after the business has launched?

  • Hands-on approach within the venture in combination with a weekly meeting to talk through concrete problems and concrete future-proof targets.
  • We’re aware of practically everything that’s going on within our ventures.
  • Everyone within our studio is somehow involved within the daily operation of the ventures. The only difference is the extent to which this involvement goes.

7. What unique benefits does the startup studio model provide entrepreneurs?

8. What is the most significant trend/shift you see happening within the startup studio industry?

The go-together of venture building and venture capital, which will lead to venture builders with their own funds.

And there you have it! We hope you enjoyed this edition of startup studio spotlight. Thank you to Entweder for an excellent and enlightening look into their spin on the startup studio model.
