Building a company

Building a company needs the right people. It is an art by itself.

I have a feeling that most new entrepreneurs don’t think about building a company the same way as building a house. Myself included, it was a big mistake but I made it through the tough time.

How is it similar. Building and maintaining a house requires a complex set of people with different skillsets. To name a few you need the Architect, Landscaping, Designer, Plumber, M&E, … in a very specific order, one after another starting with the foundation work first.

So why don’t we think of building an organization the same way? It always start with an idea and then the architecture, but from my experience first time founders starts building right away without an architect in consideration. Once the foundation sets in, it becomes the constraints or product/tech debt.

Sometimes the only option is to tear everything down and rebuild, or building a new house next to the old one, provided you have enough land space, aka cash runway.

I love this analogy because it is so much similar and simple enough for non tech audience to understand. Perhaps I could expand this into a full podcast.
