Interview with Tony Mazlish, CEO and Founder of Mavix

Tony Mazlish CEO and Founder of Mavix — the carefully crafted ergonomic gaming solution that breaks the mold of previous gaming chairs — is an entrepreneur who has been in the retail industry for 20+ years. In 2016 Tony decided to take the plunge and created Future Seating and his first brand, a line of office chairs, X-Chair.

Being the innovative entrepreneur he is, Tony saw how well his office chair business was doing, providing an ergonomic solution for everyday aches and pains associated with work, and set his sights on the gaming industry. The gaming industry has been taking off for some time, but amidst the pandemic gaming saw an explosion, which is when Tony decided it was time to launch X-Chair’s sister company Mavix.

Mavix gives a whole new look to gaming chairs (bye race car chairs from the past), Mavix offers a sleek, well-designed ergonomic gaming solution with adjustments made specifically for gamers of any level — recline, cool foam seating, dynamic variable lumbar support and more — since Tony launched the company this past November, Mavix has since been disrupting the gaming space.

Dan: Thanks again for taking the time to talk with us. To start, I am sure our readers would love to learn more about you. How did you get here? What is your background?

I have spent twenty (20) years as a retailer, founding The Healthy Back Store in 1994. In that line of business, we sold a broad selection of ergonomic office chairs and learned what people like. I then used that education to create Future Seating and its first brand, X-Chair which was later followed by Mavix, launching November 11, 2020.

Dan: Tell us about your business. What do you do and what is your startup’s origin story?

I am the CEO and Founder of Mavix, which sells ground breaking, ergonomic, supportive, high-quality gaming chairs — Mavix’s ergonomics and futuristic design are truly “game changing.” Mavix was born as a result of seeing gamers buy my company’s office chair brand (X-Chair) and use it for gaming. We then teamed up with an endemic group of guys from the gaming industry — Zoned Gaming — to create a better gaming chair that would offer quality, comfort, ergonomics and style.

Dan: What’s unique about your company? What are the key differentiators between you and other players?

4 things: 1) Ergonomics — known as Mavix’s “Future 9 functions,” 2) Unique, patented, Dynamic Variable Lumbar support — moves with the user as they game 3) Unique, future looking styling 4) Partnering with gamers and other influencers in the gaming community to create organic relationships and build from the ground up.

Dan: Take us through a day in your life. What does the typical day look like?

  • Zoom call to kick-off the morning with my team
  • Going through and responding to my emails
  • A couple more Zoom calls — I prefer Zoom to normal calls, just the way I operate
  • Emails and spreadsheets another Zoom call or two
  • Watch 30 minutes of basketball and go to sleep

Dan: What are some of the key steps you have taken to grow your business?

I spent 18 months of iterative design to ensure I was able to create a quality, differentiated product; 2) Carefully select the right partners, from Zoned Gaming to Valkyrae and other influencers, to help ensure my company and products standout 3) Deliver C.A.R.E — Create A Remarkable Experience — customer service.

Dan: What has been the most challenging part of growing your company?

For me it has been forecasting demand, managing supply chain upheavals in the current global environment and managing expectations.

Dan: What are your best sales and marketing tips?

Sales — ASK QUESTIONS AND ACTIVELY LISTEN FIRST, SECOND and THIRD; marketing — if it can’t be measured, as a small company, don’t do it, also don’t be afraid to try new things and kill them if they don’t work.

Dan: Do you have a book, podcast, or Youtube channel you would recommend to other Entrepreneurs?

I don’t read business books; but any book about perseverance is good — “Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage” is one; and I enjoyed a recent novel called “Shantaram”; also, anything about Winston Churchill — he was kind of the ultimate crazy entrepreneur — visionary, courageous, indomitable, and crazy lucky.

Dan: If you could go back in time to the day you founded your company, what advice would you give yourself?

It’s all about the process — and don’t be afraid to focus on the possible.
