A Story of Tailor made travelling

We can talk about another touristic vision, or the value of storytelling, exploring and community involvement combined to create unique travelling experiences.

The idea came from my experience in Samothraki island. A magical place with the power of a magnet that either draws you or repels you.

Working there designing a private island campaign, came to realize two existing issues; one is the centralized destination marketing that is apparent once someone talks with tourism professionals about the famous greek destinations they recognize and promote, and the second is the typical vacation style in Greece — sandy packed beaches and all inclusive programs that exclude genuine local experiences.

So what could disrupt this pattern?

Greece Experience, a start-up created to discover the identity of the less known destinations and tell their stories…

… while building tailor made experiences for the curious travelers to explore.

The Startup Weekend Entrepreneurial Journalism

The idea of Greece Experience came to life when Elpida Kyprioti, @Marios Giakalos and Stefi stampoulian found it challenging and dedicated their start-up weekend to evolve it*.

The Start-up process!

The simple model:

A content based platform will present destinations with true stories by editors and reporters. Those stories will form the profile of the destination — culture, culinary, mystic, extreme, anything the place has in its core to offer. The destination page will be an interactive spot where filtered content will enrich and keep the story alive.

When the guest travels online to the location it is time for the actual experience to begin.

A network of key partners such as locals, ground operators, who provide content and services, organizations, travel experts, tourism entrepreneurs and on line platforms will be connected via Greece Experience to make the tailor made experience whole for our fellow explorers.

Our dream is to create a map of destinations that attracts people to do something more than just visit them. To live them. We are designing new experiences for our followers and make our own even more meaningful.

The Startup Weekend Entrepreneurial Journalism gave Greece Experience a push to begin and evolve as a project. And we thank all our coaches, mentors and organizers who supported us during and after, especially Jeremy Caplan, Patricio Contreras and Betty Tsakarestou.

After being voted the second best idea!

Now that we made the first step to give it a shot, we have a developer who will follow our project and we are building the primary content for the first two islands, Samothraki and Amorgos.
