How To Market Your Local Business on Social Media and Create Sales Now

You want to grow your business and you understand that social media marketing is vial to reach your customers.

But how do you turn social media into your biggest sales tool?

Sadly, if you are like most local businesses, social media has not been creating as many new sales as you had hoped.

  • Your Facebook pages are barely growing.
  • Nobody is following you on Twitter.
  • Your business Instagram account hasn’t been updated in months.
  • Snapchat… don’t even get me started.

How can we change this?

You know that social media marketing and advertising has worked for other businesses, why not yours?

First, we need to change the way you look at social media from a business perspective.

Your #1 goal at the end of the day is to bring in more sales.

That is what keeps the lights on, pays your employees and makes your business a business!

In order to grow your business there are two things you need to think about.

  1. How can I get more customers?
  2. How can I get my existing customers to buy more from me?

Lucky for you, we can use social media to improve both of those.

You just have to make sure you are using it the right way.

Lets start with getting more customers!

If you were aimlessly scrolling on Facebook, what would grab your attention? Something that you just couldn’t resist.

Think about an offer your business could provide, that would stop someone scrolling online immediately if they came across it.

Here are some examples to paint a picture for you:

  • Chiropractor: Complementary adjustment / wellness session
  • Dentist: Free teeth cleaning
  • Tire Dealer: Free oil change or gift certificate
  • Restaurant: Free bottle of wine at dinner
  • Gym: Free 7 day guest pass

Now that you thought of a killer offer you could provide we need to think about who your target market actually is.

Where are your customers currently spending time on social media, what are their likes, dislikes, where do they live, how much do they make a year… the list goes on.

Our goal is to create you a social media ad that targets those exact people and use the killer offer you’ve already brainstormed to lure them in.

You can run these ads on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn…
I recommend Facebook. 99% of the time, it’s all you are going to need.

After creating the Facebook ad is where a lot of business hit a brick wall. The advertisement is just the beginning of this process, not the finish line.

Your goal at this point is to get contact information. 
Typically I recommend getting their name, phone number and email.

Once your customer gives that information to you it is 100% on you to get them into your business.

Some of these people will automatically come in or call you because of your killer offer, however don’t count on it.

You need to call them.
It is an easy call.
They WANT to come into your business.
They ASKED for your offer.
You are not bothering them by calling.

If it was my business I would be calling these people until they

a) Came into my business or 
b) Told me to never call them again.

Following this method will get you more new customers than you will have ever imagined.

Here are the 5 easy steps to effective customer growth using social media advertising.

  1. Killer Offer
  2. Targeted Ads
  3. Get Contact Info!! — do not just send them to your website or Facebook page
  4. Follow Up
  5. Follow Up Again (and again)

Now it’s time to target your existing customers so that they will come back to your business and spend more money!

How do we do this?

First, you need to tell Facebook who your previous customers are.

Some of your customers may already like your Facebook page (that is an easy one). Others you will have to import into Facebook using an Excel or CSV spreadsheet.

Hopefully you keep a database of your customers e-mail addresses. Facebook can match those e-mail addresses to your customers Facebook profile.

That way we can market directly with a customized message and get them back into your business.

Just like before you will need to come up with an offer that they can not refuse.

Maybe it is a “bring a friend” discount, gift certificate, or something similar to one of the offers we listed above in the other example.

For this social media ad you want to make sure the wording clearly calls them out for being a repeat customer.

Let them know you are talking directly to them and invite them back in.

Just like before our goal is to collect their contact info by leading them to a landing page from the Facebook ad.

Call each customer and follow up.
They want to hear from you.
They asked for your offer.

The major difference between methods is advertisement targeting.

If you don’t have an existing customer list, don’t worry about it. Just focus on getting new customers in the door using the first method we talked about and you will be fine.

  • Use social media to your advantage.
  • Craft offers that give your customers exactly what they want.
  • Don’t just buy ads that direct people to your website, other peoples content, or social profiles. Have a purpose for your ads.
  • Send people to a landing page where you can collect information from them. That way you can provide them the service they want and deserve.
